Artist's Comments

HEY GUYS, REMEMBER SAKURABELLA-CHAN, FROM APRIL FOOLS DAY??? SHE'S BAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!! 8DDD
and she looks like a rugrat wtf

OKAY SO, RANT TIME. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

As many of us dollers probably know [and have complained about many, many times], there has been a rise in recent months of these...MS Paint concoctions that people are trying to pass off as pixel dolls. Needless to say, it's rather disheartening to go through the newest section of the Doll category and to see horrible bases, miscats, dolls, you name it.

Now, let me make one thing clear -- I have no problem with newbies being horrible dollers. Face it, very few are going to be absolutely amazing when they produce their first doll [or ANYTHING, for that matter]. It'd be incredibly unrealistic of me to expect newbies to make friggin' masterpieces on their first go-around.

However...I'm referring to the type that have been churning out these "dolls" for a year, perhaps even more, with little to no improvement. It's like they don't really even care, they just want the comments and the faves.

And the sad thing is? These dolls are actually getting the comments and faves, moreso than the dolls that people actually take their friggin' time on! It's almost insulting! AND, furthermore, these comments rarely, if ever, provide any sort of helpful critique. They're usually consisting of "CUTE!!! ^_^" and "AWSOME", etc, etc.

So...this is where I come in.

Kids, please, please, PLEASE don't think someone critiquing you means they're trying to pull you apart. It's quite the opposite, it means they see potential in you, and they don't want it to go to waste! Asking/receiving it is hard, trust me. OH BOY, is it hard. I still have a hard time with it, and I sometimes get grumpy over it, but in the end, all they are doing is trying to help, since they see how truly amazing you're becoming or see the great potential in you. I say this because I stubbornly refused crit for a long time, and have only recently started to warm up to it.

HOWEVER, for the critiquers, don't just jump all over someone's comments and immediately crit them to heck and back. Even if your intentions are good, this just comes off as rude. Ask them first.

And, as I said before, just because someone asks if they can critique you doesn't mean they're out to get you. They're just trying to help.

And, if you're responsible for monstrosities similar to the above, have been going that way for a long time, and absolutely refuse help...well, sucks to be you. I'm sorry you're letting potential talent go to waste.

Ask for help.
Look for tutorials.
Try to improve. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Come on, guys. We've come too far, tried so hard to make ourselves a respectable art form, proving we're not just a bunch of talentless hacks that don't even attempt to draw poses and the like. Let's not let it trash itself like it has been. We've worked too hard.

I can't imagine the person who doesn't read your comments. xD "GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER AND WHY ARE THE EYES BLEEDING?!"

Well said. It's the same with every art form. I see people who work for years to develop their own style. Let's say they started with a Jhonen-esque style. After ten years of going at it and all of this effort, they decide to do a picture for Naruto, DBZ, or Kingdom Hearts and in that artist's style. That picture will most likely get more views/comments/favs than every other picture in their entire gallery. (Maybe even combined.)

Hard work is sometimes never rewarded, whereas talentless hacks are praised and paid top dollar for things that can barely even be called art.

As far as critique goes, it ticks me off a little when you mention all the things you know are wrong or off in your picture, then someone rips you a new one in their critique for those very mistakes.

...Or just being a tard and calling any certain art form into question/dissing on it.

Haven't even commented on the picture yet!
I love how the background on the second picture is this dingy black deathly gray. XD The colors are all muted- a very nice touch.
