Before you come at me with pitchforks and torches ablaze, HEAR ME OUT. I am about to explain the reasoning behind this stamp.
Final Fantasy VII. I'm sure you've heard of it. A charming little game released on the PS1 11 years ago by Square-Enix [then known as Squaresoft]; they created this as their first 3D venture for their beloved franchise...and, it was a mega hit. Critics loved it, fans bent over backwards for it.
Now this is all well and good, but where does the purpose come in?
The constant milking of a once-revered game.
Yes, it's popular. Yes, I expect there to be milking of a popular thing. But it doesn't bother me any less. The constant spinoffs are absolutely not needed:
The first Kingdom Hearts? Fine, they were merely cameos, nothing more. Then KHII pretty much attempted to rewrite the characters' stories entirely [YES, I know it's considered AU, but it still aggravates me]. Despite my constant lambasting of it, I do like KH...the first one, at least. KHII was fun but added in a LOT of unneeded angst...but that's a different subject.
Last Order was meh. Nice to look at but didn't do much for me.
Dirge of Cerberus sounded good in concept, a game starring Vincent, and I was looking forward to it. I played it and it bored the snot out of me, I couldn't make it past 30 minutes. But I suppose that's more of a gameplay issue than anything.
Before Crisis isn't and probably won't ever make it over here, so I cannot make a very valid opinion on that.
Crisis Core has been generally well-received. I have yet to play it, but the warm reviews put me at ease, and I will try it out some time.
Advent Children...I wish this abomination to the deepest pits of hell. I was so hyped for this movie, only to have it disappoint me in nearly every aspect imaginable. The movie was indeed beautiful to look at, yes, and the music was good [I admit to liking the remix of One Winged Angel], but other than that...boring as heck. FAR too much action, not NEARLY enough story, crapping on some of the characters [more on that later]...and the spawns known as Yazoo, Loz, and Kadaj. I hate these three. What is their purpose? Fangirl fodder? [probably] I hate Kadaj the most out of the three of them. GUH I HATE HIM. Stupid whiny gross brat that needed thrown off a cliff. And he, like...evolved into Sephiroth or something?! I didn't get it. I still don't.
Cloud used to be a slick "cool" type that was trying to live the life his friend wanted to live. Instead, he's now generic kawaii emo anime bishie # 88947458945728945724589745. [Granted, I always hated Cloud, but I find his original incarnation somewhat more tolerable]. And Sephiroth. Some of you remember how badly I loved him. Well, I still love him as a character. However...back in the good old days, he would attack Cloud because he was getting in his way. Now he just attacks him for the heck of it. Wtf.
...if you made it this far, I applaud you. I understand my rant is long and probably everywhere and not very coherent. I apologize.
Keep in mind this is my opinion, though. If flaming/n00bery gets out of hand, I WILL disable commenting.
tl;dr I love ffvii and i hate it now waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
I hated what they done to Aeries in KH2 for some reason. But I agree with you on KH2. I enjoyed it but there was ALOT of stuff in there that was unneeded. I think they could have done that game differently IMO.
DoC was interesting. It entertained me for about three days until I beat it. Loved the characters, but the battles were RIDICULOUSLY long and drawn out to me.
Lawl at what you said bout Kadaj XD Yes I believe they were slapped into the movie for fangirls sake and Kadaj was used as a pitiful excuse to bring Sephiroth back cause the developers couldn't come up with anything better for the plot. And Reno and Rude IMO seemd OOC. Noway in the original game would they go out of their way to save little kids.
Crises Core seems very promising
Final Fantasy 7 was like a Disney movie. Creators kept making more and more in thinking it would please the fans.
But, Final Fantasy 7 THE ORIGINAL AWESOME GAME I shall still love ^^

Except I didn't think DOC was all THAT bad.. But that's just probably because I'm a rabid Vincent Valentine fangirl. Don't mind me. >_>;;
And I didn't mind Advent Children either. But I agree with you on the fact that Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz were pretty much just fangirl fodder. I only liked Loz because he was ridiculously.. childish. Haha.
Definitely going to favorite this one though. FFVII used to be epic, now it's just full of fangirl-ism.

I agree with most of what you say. And I'd like to add that it added many to the fandom who have never played the original (thus spawning the kawaii emo bishi #43496346345 version cloud fanfics)
DoC was blah
I WOULD like to play BC if Had the chance.
Crisis Core was amazing.. I loved Zack's story in the original, and the game was well done.
Advent Children.. Well I sorta have this love/hate relationship with it. I hate how they made Cloud the silent emo kid, random new characters that took most of the original characters' time, and the overall lack of story. But as with the milking of FFVII, I can't help it, I'm gonna go out and buy every game/movie/whatever thing they plug in Cloud or Sephiroth in it. They have been Square's Cash Cow even before the 'ffvii compilation' and they're milking it to every last drop.

DANG, how did I forget that one? That's probably what ticks me off the most...kids that played KH/watched Advent Children and claim to know EVERYTHING about the series. It's irritating and I want to smack them. I know that sounds elitist, but I really don't care. >_>;
The only thing I disagree with is your view on Crisis Core. Having played it, I can truthfully say it's a terrible peice of crap made only to appease the mindless fans. Re-writing everything that happened before VII and leaving major plot holes were two of its downfalls, but the worst one of all would of been the robotic banter between characters and overall suicide indusing boringness of it all. But I guess after being a fan of FFVII for nearly over 11 years none of it's sequels, or prequels will ever do it justice.

When you speak about Advent Children, you voice the deepest message in the language of my heart Kadaj should go and die (which he actually did ) and the film even made Uematsu's music sound sucky - and that's sure something. The sad part is that most of the 13-year-old fangirls who get all crazy about CloudxZack or other shit, haven't even played the original game. Some of them might not even be aware such thing exists, who knows... I don't have a subby, but you're getting a fave from me anywho

Mrrrrrrrrr...
Remember "The Ring", how there was a tape so bad that you watched it and died within a week? Well I'm pretty sure the tape contained Twilight.
I have to agree on all your points. I adore this game. It's awesome. Advent Children, DOC, ect... All those spin offs... They just weren't necessary. The game was fine on it's on and still is.
AMEN TO THIS
